How To Get Fit: A Professional Trainer To The Rescue

How not to get fit

When it comes to fitness and well-being, finding a trainer who truly understands your challenges and comprehends your unique goals can be the key to getting in better shape.

I see so many gym members feeling unsure about where to start that they begin following some sort of YouTube video because they think it's effective, but as a professional, I see problems.

Let me just tell you one story I witnessed. There are many, but it would be too long to write about them all here. Once, there was a member who always came to our cardio group classes, and most of the time he did cardio on his own.

One day, he walked up to the reception with bleeding lips. I asked him what happened, and he said he was following a workout plan for strength training he found on YouTube.

I looked at the plan and saw it was designed for an advanced workout. He was doing a dumbbell bench press, and his triceps gave up, and he dropped the dumbbell on his face as his right arm collapsed. He had a lack of expertise.

He didn’t know what to do when you are on your own and going for the last repetition you feel you will hardly be able to make. Not to mention, he was doing 6–8 reps of heavy weight without doing any strength training before.

This is what I mean when I say that I see problems when people follow some online videos. Or just another example is when I see a member following a HIIT workout from the video and doing squat jumps with her knee swinging sideways.

Blaming others and pointing fingers is not my style, but this is something that must be addressed as I see novice people trying to get fit the wrong way.

I will try to be gentle here. Some guys have been training for a year, got somewhere, got some results, and decided one day that they wanted to be an influencer and start a YouTube channel without any professional qualifications.

Then there is someone who needs help, wants to get in shape, and looks for solutions. Then they find some influencers who look like they know what they are doing, not to mention they have a YouTube channel “so it must be authentic”. So, they start to follow them on their phones in the gym. Even the "trainer" in the video, however, is unaware that their technique is wrong and they don't give proper instructions.

At this point, I witness this “online trainer” performing knee-flapping squat jumps, injuring the poor person who is following them. I have seen this kind of issue in different cases, including different exercises.

You see, this is where I see problems.

I don't think there is anything wrong with following an online training programme, as long as it is done by a certified trainer. I think that for many, it's not just about following any workout routine; it's about embarking on a personalised journey towards getting in shape. Going the smart way.

I am not trying to direct you to choose me as your trainer. Honestly, I just highly recommend you choose one that is professional and qualified with good experience. You will be in safe hands. I am writing in the name of professional trainers here. I admire qualified PTs following their passion who do online coaching, know what they do, and try to build up an online coaching business.

So, let's delve into the story of Tibor, who embarked on a quest to find a trainer who understood his aspirations to shape a healthier future.

How to Get Fit: Tibor's Dilemma

Tibor used to be my client. He was a dedicated professional at the age of 29, and he was at a crossroads in his life. He had time constraints due to his demanding job, and he was slightly overweight with a spine problem.

He realised that it was high time to prioritise his health, both physically and mentally, so he wanted to find a trainer to give him workouts and instructions on how to get fit.

A Multitude of Options: The Fitness Maze

As Tibor set out on his quest for an ideal fitness solution on how to get fit, he saw a myriad of workout programmes, fitness influencers on social media, and ads promising quick results.

One day, he walked up to the reception desk, where I was waiting for a client. He was asking me if I could help him. Tibor knew he needed something more tailored to his specific goals with his specific spine problem.

You see, the fitness industry is awash with generic plans and cookie-cutter approaches, but if you want to start out effectively and be goal-oriented with injury prevention in mind at the same time, you better get a qualified trainer with a passion for his work.

The Empathy Factor: A Trainer Who Listens

After some contemplation, Tibor's search for workouts to get fit led him to a trainer who didn't just prescribe exercises but also took the time to understand his aspirations and constraints.

I understood that Tibor wasn't just looking for a one-size-fits-all workout routine. He needed a plan that aligned with his lifestyle, addressed his specific health concerns (he was born with an open spine at the coccyx), and could be adjusted as his progress evolved.

How to Get Fit: A Personalised Journey

I crafted a personalised workout programme for Tibor. Every exercise was chosen with him in mind, supporting his needs, challenges, and long-term goals. I understood that Tibor's journey was more than just physical; it was a transformative process that touched upon his mental well-being as well.

Staying motivated to work out consistently is a challenge. I hear many times that the fact that I booked my client in, we agreed, and he or she paid for it already gives them motivation to come to the workouts and follow through. Yes, sometimes you don’t feel like going and keeping up the routine and the good work.

What also helps is when we continuously set new goals to go for. We started out at 26.3% bodyfat with Tibor, and we kept going until 15%. Tibor had trained 4-5 times a week and followed the nutrition plan religiously. He achieved his targets, which gave him more motivation.

How To Get Fit: A Professional Trainer To The Rescue

Tibor's journey to get in shape exemplifies the importance of finding a trainer who truly comprehends your goals and gives you professional guidance anytime you need it, taking out the guesswork.

It's about connecting with a fitness professional who listens, understands, and tailors a workout programme that's not just a series of exercises but a roadmap towards a healthier, happier future.

By the way, Tibor fell in love with fitness so much that he even went to a fitness school and became a qualified personal trainer himself.

As you embark on your own quest to find the right workouts for weight loss, remember that the right trainer can be the guiding light on your path to a healthier you. It's not just about any workout; it's about the workout that's right for you.
